The photographer

I've been making photographs for over twenty years — first as a student of fine art, then as a working photographer across commercial, nonprofit, and academic work, and always as someone for whom the image begins as an idea before it becomes a frame.

My background in drawing and painting means I think about photographs the way a visual thinker does: composition, light, the relationship between what's inside the frame and what isn't. The camera is a tool, not a destination.

S3Photo is the business side of that practice. The work ranges from portraits to commercial assignments to personal fine art series — all of it made with the same set of eyes.

What I do

Twenty years of work across a range of clients and contexts. Below is an honest accounting of where I work best.

Portraits

Individual, family, and executive portraiture. Environmental sessions that place people in meaningful context rather than against a backdrop. I'm interested in likeness and presence, not just a good pose. On-location preferred

Commercial

Brand, product, and editorial photography for businesses, nonprofits, and academic institutions. I've worked across a range of sectors and understand the difference between a photograph that documents and one that communicates. Commercial licensing available

Events

Documentary coverage of events, conferences, openings, and gatherings. Unobtrusive, observational — the photographs look like the event felt rather than how it was staged.

Fine Art Prints

Archival-quality prints from personal work and selected commissioned projects, available by inquiry. Inquiry only
